International SEO consultant. Rank in more than one market without building a mess.

As an international SEO consultant, we help companies rank in several countries and languages: choosing the markets, researching how each one searches, and setting up hreflang and structure so the right version shows up in the right place. We do it on our own products too. dronkapp.com has 200+ pages ranking in 13 languages.

The challenge

International SEO fails in predictable ways

The common story: a company translates its site, launches it in five languages and sees almost nothing happen. The pages are indexed, but they target translated keywords nobody uses, compete with each other across countries, or show the wrong version to the wrong users.

International SEO services fix this at the strategy level. Before any translation, you should know which markets have demand, what people there actually search for, and how the site should be structured to serve each market.

Structure

Where each market should live

International site structures compared
StructureExampleStrengthsTrade-offs
Subfoldersexample.com/de/One domain, shared authority, simplest to runWeaker local signal than a country domain
Country domainsexample.deStrong local signal and trustEach domain builds authority from scratch
Subdomainsde.example.comCan run on separate systemsOften treated more like separate sites
Parametersexample.com?lang=deEasy to addNot recommended; hard to target and track

For most of our clients, subfolders are the right choice. mediavikings.dk itself runs Danish at the root and English under /en/, connected with hreflang.

Process

How we approach international SEO. Market by market.

  1. Choose the markets

Where is there demand, and where can you actually serve customers? We look at search demand per country and language before recommending where to start.

  2. Research each market on its own terms

People in Germany, the UK and the US do not search with translated versions of the same words. Each market gets its own keyword research and its own look at the local search results.

  3. Set up the structure

Domain or folder structure, hreflang, canonicals, sitemaps and language navigation, so each market sees the right version and Google does not treat them as duplicates.

  4. Build market-specific pages

Some pages are shared across markets. Others exist only where the demand is. Prices, proof, examples and contact details should fit the market.

  5. Measure per market

Rankings, traffic and conversions tracked separately for each country, so you can see which markets are working and where to invest next.

Multilingual SEO

Multilingual SEO is keyword research, not translation

The words people use change between languages, and so does the intent behind them. A term that is a buying search in English can be a student search in German. Multilingual SEO means doing the research in each language and letting that decide which pages exist where.

That is also why we separate international SEO from website localization services. Localization is about making the content read naturally in each language. International SEO is about which content should exist, for whom, and how it is found. Most projects need both. If you need many similar pages across markets, see programmatic SEO.

Consultant

One senior consultant, remote by default

MediaVikings is a small studio in Denmark. You work directly with Jacob Gade Hartmann, who built the multilingual sites behind our own products. We work remotely with clients in the US, UK and Europe, which suits international SEO: most of it is research, structure and communication across time zones anyway.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does an international SEO consultant do?

An international SEO consultant helps a website rank in more than one country or language. That covers market selection, keyword research per market, site structure and hreflang, market-specific content and measurement by country.

Should I use country domains, subfolders or subdomains?

For most businesses, subfolders on one domain (example.com/de/) are the simplest and let every market benefit from the same authority. Country domains can make sense for strong local brands with local teams. We recommend based on your situation, not a rule.

What is hreflang and do I need it?

Hreflang is markup that tells search engines which language or regional version of a page to show to which users. If you have the same content in several languages or for several English-speaking countries, you need it, and it has to be reciprocal to work.

Is international SEO the same as translating my website?

No. Translation makes your content readable in another language. International SEO decides which markets to enter, what people there search for, and how the site is structured so each version ranks. We cover translation quality on our website localization page.

Can you help with the US and UK at the same time?

Yes. Same-language markets are a classic hreflang case. Spelling, terminology, prices and proof often differ enough between the US and UK to justify separate pages for key services.

Do you work as a consultant or as an agency?

Both, in practice. You work directly with one senior person, Jacob, and we can also build and maintain the multilingual site if you need it.
