SEO for apps. Installs from Google, not just from the App Store.
SEO for apps gets your mobile app found on Google, where many potential users start. We build app websites around the searches people make, then send them on to the App Store. Our own unfollowcheck.com gets around 30,000 visitors a month, mostly from Google.

Two engines
Your app competes in two search engines
App developers focus on the App Store, which makes sense: it is where installs happen. But many users never search the App Store first. They search Google for a problem, read a page, and only then go to the store. If your app has no page for that search, a competitor gets the install.
| App Store search | Google search | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical query | Short: "party game", "bikepacking" | Longer: "how to see who unfollowed me on Instagram" |
| What ranks | App listings | Web pages, guides, tools |
| How you win | ASO: title, keywords, ratings, downloads | SEO: pages matched to searches, speed, structure |
| Languages | Per store listing | Per web page, often more flexible |
We do both. For the store side, see our App Store optimization services. This page is about the web side.
What we build
How app SEO works in practice.
-
Research what people search for on Google
Google searches for app-shaped problems are often phrased as questions or tasks, not app names. Those searches are different from App Store keywords and need their own research.
-
Give each use case its own page
One homepage cannot rank for everything the app does. Pages for specific features, problems and audiences can, and each one leads to the download.
-
Go multilingual early
Apps are global from day one. A website in several languages can rank in markets where competitors only have English.
-
Make the path to the App Store short
Clear download buttons, Smart App Banners on iOS and pages that explain the value in seconds, so visitors actually install.
-
Offer something useful on the web
A web version, a free tool or a preview of the app's content gives Google something to rank and gives visitors a reason to trust the app.
Proof
Our own apps grow on search
We have eight apps of our own in the App Store, so SEO for mobile apps is something we do for ourselves every week. UnfollowCheck has 120,000+ users, and its website gets around 30,000 visitors a month, mostly from Google. dronkapp.com has 200+ pages ranking in 13 languages, and a high share of its visitors go on to the App Store and subscribe.

Also AI
Apps get recommended by AI assistants too
People increasingly ask ChatGPT and similar assistants which app to use. Both unfollowcheck.com and dronkapp.com get visitors from AI assistants, according to our analytics. A clear website is what those assistants read. More on our AI SEO services page.
Who we are
An app studio that does its own SEO
MediaVikings is a small studio in Denmark. We build native iOS apps and the websites that bring them users, for ourselves and for clients in the US, UK and Europe. If you are still at the idea stage, see SEO for startups.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is SEO for apps?
SEO for apps means getting your mobile app found through Google and other web search, usually through a website built around the searches your future users make. It complements App Store optimization, which covers search inside the App Store.
Is app SEO the same as ASO?
No. ASO (App Store optimization) improves your ranking inside the App Store and Google Play. App SEO brings users from Google search to your website and on to the store. Most successful apps need both. See our ASO services.
Can an app website really drive installs?
Yes. dronkapp.com gets 5,000+ visitors a month, and a high share of them continue to the App Store and start a subscription. The key is pages that match what people search for and make the download the obvious next step.
Do Google results show apps directly?
Sometimes, for app-name searches and some app-shaped queries. But for most problem-based searches, Google shows web pages. That is the traffic app SEO captures.
We only have a one-page app landing page. Is that enough?
It is a start, but a single page can only rank for a few searches, usually your brand name. Growth comes from pages for each use case, feature and language. See app website design.
