WordPress runs a large share of the web, and for good reason. But for a typical service business site, it often brings more work than value: plugin updates every week, security patches, a page builder that slows every page, and a hosting bill for a database that serves the same ten pages over and over.

The risk
The migration is where rankings get lost
A new platform does not hurt SEO. A careless move does. When URLs change without redirects, Google sees pages disappear, links from other sites point at nothing and rankings built over years can fall away in weeks. Titles, descriptions, image alt text and internal links can also go missing in an export.

Inventory every URL
Pages, posts, categories, tags, images, PDFs and the odd landing page from 2019 that still gets links. We collect them from the sitemap, a crawl and your analytics, so nothing is missed.

Decide what moves, merges or retires
Not everything deserves to come along. Thin tag archives and duplicate posts can be merged or retired. Anything with traffic, links or rankings keeps a home.

Migrate the content
Text, images, metadata and structured content are exported from WordPress and cleaned up. Shortcodes and page builder markup are turned into clean, lasting content.

Keep URLs, or redirect them
Where possible, URLs stay exactly the same. Where they change, every old address gets a permanent redirect to its new home, set up before launch.

Rebuild forms and features
Contact forms, booking, newsletter signups and embeds are rebuilt without plugins, and tested end to end.

Launch and verify
We crawl the new site and the old URL list after launch, check Search Console and fix anything that slipped. Then the old WordPress install can be switched off.

Can you convert WordPress to a static site without losing SEO?
Yes, if the move is planned. The risk is not the static site itself but changed URLs, lost metadata and missing pages. With a full URL inventory, preserved URLs or redirects, and carried-over titles and descriptions, rankings should hold, and speed often improves them over time.
Why migrate from WordPress to Astro?
Speed, security and lower running costs. A static site built with Astro has no plugins to update, no database to attack and pages that load fast by default. It suits most marketing and content sites that do not need many editors publishing every day.
What happens to my blog posts?
They come along, with their URLs, images, titles and descriptions. Posts with no traffic and no value can be merged or retired if you want, with redirects so no link breaks.
Can I still edit content after the migration?
Yes. We can connect a headless CMS so you edit in a browser, or you can send changes to us as part of a maintenance agreement.
What about WooCommerce or membership plugins?
Those are the hard cases. Simple shops can move to a hosted checkout. Complex stores or member areas may be better left on a dedicated platform, with the marketing site moved to static. We will tell you which applies to you.
